What We Did
Prayer is a short film depicting a muslim prayer. The space is filmed with a time-of-flight camera that “scan” a particular area including depth; allowing for a shift of perspective after-the-fact it has been filmed. Prayer forms part of the Medea Electronique project Soundscapes Landscapes – Rhizome I.
In Prayer we are invited to a muslim prayer taking place in congregation. At first the audience only takes the role as an observer but their visual perspective is slowly shifted to become an integrated part of this spiritual moment. The soundscape of this video combines the voice of the Imam as well as sound fragments from the surrounding space in which we are participating. Prayer was recorded from a single vantage point with a spatial recording device enabling to capture depth as well as colour information. This technique enabled the possibility to move freely within the space and thus shifting perspectives – without intruding or distracting the prayer.
